The Hurricanes men’s and women’s cross country running teams were in Moncton, New Brunswick over the weekend for the third Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) meet of the season, this time hosted by the Crandall University Chargers.
The ‘Canes had five total runners competing, with Olivia Fogarty running as an individual in the female race. In total, there were 48 runners from six different member schools at the event.
The ‘Canes men, competing on the eight-kilometer course, were led by Jeffrin Benedict and Josiah Wigmore, finishing seventh and eighth with times of 29:43 and 29:45 respectively. William Wang finished in 18th at 34:14 while Zachary Ryan was 21st at 37:43.
The winning runner was Mitchell Firth from the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics with a time of 26:57.
The team of four Hurricanes runners finished fourth in the meet, while the Mount Allison University Mounties took the top-spot, followed by the Crandall Chargers and Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams.
The women’s race, utilizing the six-kilometer course, was won by Kiona Osterlin from Mount Allison in 22:09. Fogarty went on to finish in 14th for the ‘Canes in 26:46.
In the team event, the Mounties were the top finishers, followed by the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons, Dal AC Rams and MSVU Mystics.
All ACAA runners are preparing for the conference championships on October 30 in Truro, Nova Scotia, hosted by the Dal AC Rams.
