Soccer ‘Canes set to take on Vanier to open Nationals

The Hurricanes women’s soccer team is in Toronto, Ontario this week for the 2021 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Women’s Soccer Championship, hosted by the Humber College Hawks.

The ‘Canes, the 2021 Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Champions, will begin the tournament on Wednesday at 11am Atlantic versus the champions from Quebec, the Vanier College Cheetahs (Montreal).

A win on Wednesday moves you into the national semi-final match on Thursday at 4pm Atlantic, while a loss drops you into the bronze quarter-final on Thursday at 11am Atlantic.

There are eight competing schools at the championship which also includes the Capilano University Blues (British Columbia), Fanshawe College Falcons (Ontario), SAIT Trojans (Alberta), Humber College Hawks (Ontario), Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy (Quebec) and Les Rouges Sainte-Boniface (Manitoba).

On Friday evening, the CCAA announced their 2021 national award winners.  The Hurricanes were recognized on two occasions.

Both Paige Deighan, and Mohammad Alhaj Ali (men’s soccer), were recognized as 2021 CCAA All-Canadians.  Both players had exceptional seasons at the conference level, including being named to their respective ACAA first All-Conference teams.
