


The men’s and women’s soccer Hurricanes had a successful weekend in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season play, each picking up a pair of wins over the Crandall University Chargers and Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams.
On Saturday in Moncton versus the Chargers, the women’s Hurricanes offence was firing on all cylinders in a 10-0 victory.
Goals came from Emily Lepine (3’, 21’, 25’, 74’, 88’), Emily Cormier (28’), Sarah MacVarish (57’, 60’, 66’), and Miranda McKinnon (65’) with Kylie MacLellan earning the win in goal.
The ‘Canes then followed up with another win on Sunday at home versus the Dal AC Rams at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall.
Renee Arsenault gave the ‘Canes the advantage in the 61’ off an assist from Emily Cormier in the 1-0 win.
The Hurricanes outshot the Rams, 21-2 in the match.
The ‘Canes enter the final weekend of play at 7-2-1 and in second in the ACAA standings, one-point behind the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics with a game in-hand.
The Chargers fall to 1-5-4, while the Rams drop to 0-8-1 after their losses this weekend.
The ‘Canes final weekend of play, two home games versus the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves and St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies, take place at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall. The Seawolves are 6-4-0 and in fourth, while the Tommies are 2-5-3 and in fifth.
The men’s Hurricanes used goals from Mohammad Alhaj Ali in the 34’, and Thomas Ford in the 69’ to give them the 2-0 victory over the Crandall Chargers in Moncton on Sunday. Keegan MacKinnon was the winning goalkeeper.
It was another close game for the ‘Canes on Sunday at home, a 3-1 win over the Rams at the Terry Fox Sports Complex.
Tegan Misener got the ‘Canes on the board in the 2’ before Alexander Dixon scored in the 36’, giving Holland College the 2-0 lead entering the break.
One more in the 50’ by Reid Peardon put the ‘Canes up 3-0 before the Rams got on the board in the 66’ when Mohamed Camara scored.
The Hurricanes outshot the Rams, 15-12 in the game, with MacKinnon once again earning the win in goal for Holland College.
The ‘Canes improve to 9-0-1 on the season and continue to lead the ACAA standings. The only other undefeated team this season is the STU Tommies, 8-0-2. The Chargers and Rams fall to 0-10-0 and 1-8-0 respectively after their losses this weekend.
The Hurricanes will look to lock up the top spot in the standings entering the playoffs this weekend at home versus the UNBSJ Seawolves (5-3-2, fourth) and Tommies.
