The Holland Hurricanes will host the University of King’s College (UKC) Blue Devils and Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) men’s and women’s soccer action this weekend at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall. The women will begin play at 1pm each day with the men following at 3:15pm. These are the first home games for the Hurricanes this season.
The women’s Hurricanes enter the weekend at 2-0-0 after wins over the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves and St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies last weekend on the road in New Brunswick. The Blue Devils and Mystics each enter this weekend at 0-0-1 after ties last weekend versus the Crandall Chargers.
“Everyone is super excited for the upcoming home games,” shared Helena Vos, midfielder for the Hurricanes. “Coming off of two wins last weekend, each being away games, we are all super pumped to showcase our skills in front of the home crowd!”
The men’s Hurricanes enter their home opener on Saturday at 1-0-1, tied at the top of the ACAA standings alongside the STU Tommies. They opened the season last weekend with a victory over the UNBSJ Seawolves followed by a scoreless draw with the Tommies. The Blue Devils and Mystics each sit at 1-0-0 after wins over the Crandall Chargers last weekend.
“The games last weekend were very big for us because it gave us a real picture of what the level of competition in the league would be but also to see how our team could come together,” said Avery Leblanc-Stokes, centerback for the ‘Canes. “I think overall we did very well in finishing the weekend like we did, it was a very successful opening weekend to kick start to our season.”
