The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s soccer teams return to Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season action this weekend when they face the Crandall University Chargers and Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams.
On Saturday, the ‘Canes will travel to Moncton, New Brunswick for a pair of games with Crandall. The women’s game begins at 1pm with the men to follow at 3:15pm.
The women’s Hurricanes enter the weekend at 5-1-2 and in second place while the Chargers are 1-4-4 and in sixth. Holland College won the previous meeting with Crandall, a 2-0 win on September 28 in Cornwall.
“Coming out of thanksgiving is going to be huge for us,” shared Paige Deighan, midfielder from Wilmot Valley, PEI. “We need to be coming out determined to win, and to be successful we need to continue our team efforts from the goalie up to our strikers by being first to the ball, defending well, and being strong with our attacks.”
The men’s ‘Canes will look to continue a strong regular season, they enter Saturday’s game at 7-0-1 and sit atop the ACAA standings, while the Chargers have struggled to an 0-9-0 record and sit in seventh. At the end of September, the ‘Canes walked away with a 4-0 win over the Chargers on home field.
“We have to keep the standard high and hold onto the momentum we had going into break,” said Daniel Martell, Hurricanes fullback from Eldon, PEI. “The training sessions have been really good and intense this week. The boys are fired up and ready to bring it to the next level for the homestretch of the season.”
