Soccer ‘Canes perfect in games over weekend in Truro

The Hurricanes men’s and women’s soccer teams secured victories on Saturday versus the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season play. The women secured the 3-0 win while the men won 1-0.

In the women’s game, the ‘Canes would jump on the board when Reese Kelly found the back of the net in the 21’; it was her first as a member of the Hurricanes.  The Hurricanes led 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the ‘Canes would add two more goals.  First in the 77’ off the foot of Helena Vos, and again in the 87’ from Hayden Chaisson, giving the Hurricanes the 3-0 victory.

The Hurricanes were dominant offensively, outshooting the Rams 8-0 in the match.  Kylie MacLellan was the goalkeeper for the ‘Canes, while Rachel Sheffield played for Dal AC.

There was one yellow card issued in the match, to Emily Lepine of the Hurricanes.

The victory improves the Hurricanes record to 3-1-1; they currently sit in a tie for second in the standings alongside the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics. The Hurricanes trail the first place, University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves, by just two points. The Rams fall to 0-5-0 with the loss.

The Hurricanes will return to action on Tuesday night for a rescheduled game versus the Crandall University Chargers at 6pm at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall; the Chargers are 0-1-3 and in fifth place in the ACAA standings.

The men’s Hurricanes battled the Rams in an exciting match on Saturday; the game remained scoreless through the first half.

In the second, Avery LeBlanc-Stokes broke the tie in the 80’ off a corner kick from Kazuya Iwasaki to give the ‘Canes the lead, and eventual win.

Eoin Broome was in goal for the ‘Canes in the win, while Calum MacLeod was the keeper for Dal AC.  The Rams outshot the ‘Canes, 13-9 in the match.

In the match there was five yellow cards issued, with Parker MacLeod, Kazuya Iwasaki and Peter McQuaid receiving for the ‘Canes, and Tim Raamsteeboers and Alex Cornel for the Rams.

The ‘Canes improve to 4-0-1 this season and continue to lead the ACAA standings while the Rams drop to 0-5-0.  The Hurricanes will host the Crandall Chargers (0-3-0) on Tuesday night at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall; start time is 8:15pm.  This was a rescheduled game originally set for September 23.
