Baseball 'Canes set to host Reds/Huskies this weekend

The Holland Hurricanes will host the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Reds and Saint Mary’s University (SMU) Huskies this weekend in Atlantic Collegiate Baseball Association (ACBA) regular season action.  The ‘Canes and Reds meet on Saturday with the Huskies visiting on Sunday; both days feature double headers with games at 1 and 3:30pm at Memorial Field at Victoria Park in Charlottetown.

The Hurricanes enter the weekend at 3-1 and in second place in the standings after a split with Acadia last Saturday in their home opener, followed by two road wins over the Dalhousie Tigers last Sunday.

The Reds will prove to be a challenge for the ‘Canes after an impressive 4-0 start to their season with victories over the St. Francis Xavier (St. FX) X-Men and SMU Huskies to open the schedule.

The Huskies enter at 1-3 after dropping two to UNB and splitting a double-header with Dalhousie.

“It was a humbling first loss, so we know what we need to work on for this upcoming weekend,” shared Hurricanes pitcher, Eric Anderson.  “UNB is going to be a big challenge but we’ve been practicing hard to help us be at our best.  We’re really excited to see what’s to come from this team this season.”

Brayden Lebel understands the importance of the weekend games; he also leads the ACBA with a batting average of .778.

“It is going to be a tough weekend but I think we’re prepared for UNB and SMU.  Having a strong weekend will be very important in the standings.”
