A first period goal by Brenna Verran just 2:21 into the game put the Acadia University Axewomen ahead on Saturday night and would ultimately be all they would need.

Both teams exchanged offensive chances over the duration of the game, but neither team could find the back of the net until Verran scored an empty netter with 16 seconds remaining to cement the 2-0 victory for Acadia.

Avary Miller was the winning goaltender for Acadia, while Emma Arsenault was tagged with the loss for Holland College.

Grace Smith would score on the power play for Acadia in the second with 5:10 remaining, knotting the game at 1-1.  The ‘Canes would not waste much time however, when Emma Stuart scored a shorthanded breakaway goal with 1:02 left in the second period (unassisted), putting the ‘Canes ahead 2-1 heading to the flood.

A Ryleigh McPherson shot found the back of the Acadia net 3:48 into the third period to increase the Hurricanes lead to 3-1; assists went to Christensen and Clapham.  Acadia would mount a charge in the second half of the third, scoring with 6:34 remaining when Kenzie Cechetto scored to trim the Hurricanes lead to 3-2, which is where the game would end.
