Basketball ‘Canes set to host Tommies/Seawolves

After opening the season at home on October 30 versus the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics, the men’s and women’s basketball Hurricanes are set to return home this Saturday, November 20 versus the St. Thomas Univeristy (STU) Tommies at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement (MCCE) in Charlottetown.  The women’s Hurricanes start the day at 3pm, followed by the men at 5pm.

The action continues Sunday when the women’s volleyball ‘Canes start the day with a 12:30pm match against the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams before the women’s basketball ‘Canes take the floor at 2:30pm versus the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves, with the men following at 4:30pm.

The women’s Hurricanes, currently 2-1 in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season play, sit in a tie for third in the conference standings entering the weekend alongside the Mount Allison University Mounties and University of King’s College (UKC) Blue Devils.

The ‘Canes opened the season with a loss to the Mystics, before earning victories over the Crandall University Chargers and UNBSJ Seawolves on the road.

Their Saturday opponents from STU, sit at 5-0 this season and lead the ACAA standings, while Sunday’s opponents from UNBSJ, are 0-4 and in a tie for sixth.

The men’s Hurricanes enter the weekend at a perfect 3-0 and lead the ACAA standings; they are the only undefeated team remaining in the conference.

On Sunday they will host the second place, 4-1 STU Tommies, before welcoming the 0-4 Seawolves to the MCCE on Sunday.  This is the first time the ‘Canes and Tommies have squared off this season, while Holland College are 1-0 versus the Seawolves to-date.
