Transitions Mentor

Term Position: August 28, 2024 - June 13, 2025

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Transitions Program is seeking a Transitions Mentor in the Montague, Morell, and Souris areas.  Reporting to the Transitions Coordinator, the ideal candidate will:

  • Lead large and small groups of high school students through job market and college program research and facilitate career workshops.
  • Create rotational and daily plans for every rotation that directly correspond to program goals and student outcomes.
  • Lead students through a variety of oral communication related activities such as presentations skills, debates, and reflective discussions.
  • Assess and document student progress via different evaluations tools.
  • Lead information sessions in intermediate/high schools to help students make informed decisions about post-secondary.
  • Integrate Holland College program information into all rotations.
  • Liaise with community organizations to set up volunteer experiences to enhance the student experience.
  • Liaise with various entrepreneurs in the community to set up tours/activities.
  • Research new engaging activities.
  • Attend regular professional development sessions.
  • Act as a role model and career counsellor to students while fostering trust and professionalism.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in a related field with a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with backgrounds in trades, business, or health.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to work as an active member of a small innovative mentoring group.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving ability.
  • High degree of proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, and commitment to using technology in support of an exceptional student experience.
  • Excellent oral, and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle.
  • Counselling and/or teaching experience considered assets.

Salary:

$28.95 to $33.82 per hour; 7.5 hours per day
