Communications and Content Officer

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Marketing & Communications department at Holland College is seeking a highly skilled Communications and Content Officer. Reporting to the Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and other media professionals.
  • Pitch college stories, research findings, and event information to local, regional, national, and international media outlets.
  • Respond to media inquiries promptly, identify appropriate subject matter experts, help them prepare for interviews with briefing notes, and Q&As, and coordinate interviews.
  • Prepare and distribute news releases, media advisories, and college quotes for partner releases.
  • Prepare regular media reports to assess the effectiveness of media relations efforts.
  • Coordinate media training for college executive, staff, and faculty as required.
  • Manage content on Holland College digital and print platforms.
  • Create compelling content for the college website ensuring that style and voice are consistent with brand strategy and standards.
  • Maintain Degree Pathways database, ensuring that all entries are consistent and up to date.
  • Write stories and blog posts that promote college programs, faculty and student success.
  • Update content for the Custom View Book and ensure view book content and web content are consistent.
  • Provide proofreading, fact verification, copy-editing, and writing support to other departments as required.
  • Editor of an internal e-newsletter published twice monthly.
  • Develop and execute internal communication strategies, presentations and content for the President and college executive to keep staff and faculty informed about college updates, policies, and events.
  • Assist with development of marketing campaigns to attract prospective students.
  • Coordinate media attendance and coverage for key college events.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans, strategies, and processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary diploma or a university degree in Communications/Public Relations, Journalism, or related program.  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience maybe considered.
  • Three (3) years’ relevant experience that demonstrates superior writing, editing and proofreading skills, and a working knowledge of a wide range of communications and marketing materials.
  • Ability to take initiative and demonstrate creativity as well as good judgment.
  • Active and highly skilled on multiple Digital and Social Media platforms. Proficiency, understanding and a proven ability to write for different channels is required.
  • Proven delivery of communications and audience engagement strategies in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines.
  • Solid time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and produce materials to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, project management and relationship-building skills with an ability to work with multi-partner teams in a fast-paced environment, across locations; responds to requests quickly and professionally.
