Holland College offers day classes (full-time and part-time) and evening classes (part-time) for Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) in person and online on a year-round basis. If you are a Canadian permanent resident or a protected person, you can take free language classes that are funded by the Canadian government.
In the LINC program, you can choose to take a general class or a class specializing in hospitality or early childhood education. There are also mother and baby classes available for mothers to attend where they can bring their infants into private classrooms.
If you are interested in taking a full-time academic program at Holland College but do not meet the language requirements, please consider the English for Academic Purposes program.
The Employment Language Training (ELT) Hospitality program provides new immigrants to Canada (CLB 4+ with permanent resident status) with the opportunity to combine learning English and learning essential skills to help integrate them into the Prince Edward Island Tourism workplace.
The program provides participants with increased English language proficiency in all four CLB areas – reading, writing, listening, speaking; helps them hone their customer service and communication skills; and prepares them to work in the tourism industry. Students also learn about the Employment Standards Act and the Human Rights Act, and participate in résumé and cover letter writing workshops.
Students get hands-on server training in our own restaurant as well as customer service practice in our New-to-You Shop, as well as a two-week job shadow placement, and learn the basics of event planning by working on our Winter Carnival, Halloween Haunted House, and our Pancake Day events. A bus tour of P.E.I. familiarized them with the province's attractions.
