As Research Associate for Holland College’s Business Analytics Centre, Junaid leads project development and execution. He collaborates with diverse group of partners including industry, government, and non-profit organizations. He also provides mentorship and support to the students involved in research projects, conducts comprehensive literature reviews, and writes technical reports.
Junaid holds a master’s degree in Sustainable Design Engineering from the University of Prince Edward Island and an undergraduate degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. His master’s research focused on machine learning-based projections of climatic extremes for sustainable potato production in Prince Edward Island. With over five years of experience in the climate and agriculture industry, Junaid has hands-on expertise in climate modeling, climate-related agricultural issues, industry-based research, statistical downscaling, and future projection of climatic extremes using AI techniques, as well as analysis of historical and future climatic trends, including temporal, spatial, and inter-annual variability.
Junaid’s expertise includes precision and smart farming, where he leverages advanced technologies such as sensors to gather data on soil health, crop conditions, weather patterns, variable rate technology, estimation of evapotranspiration using artificial neural networks, resource optimization, and delineation of soil management zones. This information enables farmers to make informed decisions regarding irrigation, fertilization, and pest control, leading to more efficient resource utilization and the development of adaptation strategies to mitigate the climatic effects for sustainable agriculture in PEI.
Junaid integrates data analytics, climate science, and technology to innovate in agriculture, tackle challenges, and promote sustainability in crop production. His work not only enhances productivity but also promotes sustainable farming practices. Additionally, he has insights into monitoring coastline erosion and quantifying coastal changes using GIS methods. His expertise also includes integrating renewable energy production technologies, optimizing resource use, analyzing energy use statistics to reduce operating costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting sustainability in the agriculture sector.
