Holland College is hosting a hands-on laboratory event for prospective students on March 18, 2026. Participants will experience what it is like to study in the Environmental Applied Science Technology (EAST) and Bioscience Technology programs.
The event will take place at the College’s Prince of Wales campus in Charlottetown and will allow students to participate in real laboratory activities alongside current students and instructors. Two sessions will be offered in the CAST building from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Students may register for one or both sessions.
Joanne Bowers, instructor in Environmental Applied Science Technology, says the event is designed to help prospective students explore applied science programs at Holland College.
“This event gives students the opportunity to experience the practical side of our program. Applied science programs are built around learning by doing. Students learn the theory in class, but the lab is where they apply those ideas, develop critical thinking skills, and see how the science works in practice,” she said.
Jennifer Slemmer, instructor in Bioscience Technology, said the event will also give participants a chance to collaborate in a lab setting.
“Students will get a feel for how lab groups work together, how tasks are delegated, and how experiments are conducted step by step. They will get a sense of the space and structure of a real laboratory environment, which can help them decide whether this type of learning and work environment is the right fit for them,” said Slemmer.
Applications for the fall 2026 intake of the EAST and Bioscience Technology programs are still open, and students are encouraged to apply.
