Holland College has entered into a partnership with EC-Council Canada to deliver online cyber security training to students in the two-year Computer Networking Technology program.

EC-Council Canada, a subsidiary of the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants, is the world’s largest cyber security technical certification body. EC-Council operates in more than 145 countries and developed the world-famous Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Computer Hacking Forensics Investigator (C|HFI), and the newly launched Certified Penetration Tester (CPENT).

Chris Arsenault, an instructor in Holland College’s Computer Networking Technology program, said he was looking for a way to deliver the program’s Foundations in Cyber Security course online, given the college’s COVID-19 mitigation strategies.

“EC-Council is highly respected in the Cyber Security field, and the organization’s use of online simulators and real time infrastructure replaces what we would usually do in our classroom. The partnership provides proven curriculum designed by some of the world’s top security professionals and a host of other benefits for students and faculty,” he said.

“The global demand for cybersecurity practitioners continues to outpace the supply of trained professionals,” stated Heather MacLean, Executive Director, EC-Council Canada. “In Canada alone, ICTC has identified that we will need more than 100,000 practitioners by 2023. Partnering with Holland College, a trusted and respected institution, to help provide curricula and certification opportunities for students is an important step to helping Canada train more job-ready professionals.”

In addition to the cyber security course, Holland College’s Computer Networking Technology program teaches students how to ensure an organization’s IT runs smoothly and that all computers, servers and other devices are networked effectively. They also learn how to implement new infrastructure, web technologies, network analysis and design and virtualization. Graduates of the program can explore pathways to certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate, A+, Linux+, Security+ and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist, and now, EC-Council certification. The program is accredited by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) of the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.
