Trent Collicut, President of the Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Prince Edward Island (ACETTPEI) attended the Holland College Applied Sciences & Engineering Technology Thesis Awards Reception recently to present Technologist Thesis Awards to graduating students of the college’s technology programs.
The technical thesis, also referred to as the Applied Research Project, is a mandatory component of all accredited technologist level programs. The college’s Architectural Technology, Computer Engineering Technology and Electronics Engineering Technology programs are all nationally accredited by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board of the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.
“Holland College is a source of skilled graduates who are the future of the Applied Sciences and Technologies on Prince Edward Island and in Canada,” said Collicut. “They graduate from courses certified by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board and the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists, meeting high standards in their fields of choice. During the second year of study the students are assigned to do a thesis based on their fields of study. The students put endless time, energy, heart and soul into these projects. The Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists of PEI are proud to support and reward their hard work and endurance. We look forward to great achievements from the 2009 Holland College Architectural Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology and Computer Engineering Technology graduates in the future.”
In recognition of the top thesis of the graduating classes, ACETTPEI presents these awards on an annual basis. Receiving the awards this year were:
Architectural Technology - Patrick Kemp from Scotchfort, P.E.I., originally from Abbotsford, B.C. Patrick's thesis was a Prototype Design of a Marine Museum providing an in-depth examination of design issues related to fire protection and green roof design.
Computer Engineering Technology (CET) - Rory Chaisson, from St. Edward, P.E.I. Rory's thesis dealt with designing and implementing a Wide Area Network using Cisco Systems Networking devices.
Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) - Jessica Bustin from Pleasant Valley, P.E.I. Jessica received the award for her report and presentation on Fiber Optics.
