Holland College partners with Fringe Festival

Organizers of the exciting new Fringe Urban Festival are pleased to announce that Holland College will be the presenting partner of the 2009 Fringe Urban Festival. The partnership provides an opportunity for students in the Media and Communications programs and throughout the college to show their work to a larger audience.

Mark Fisher of Conference & Events Management Inc., the organizers of the festival, said the college was a good fit for the event.

“We are excited to have Holland College as the presenting partner for the Fringe Urban Festival. As a college alumnus, I know first-hand the great programs the college offers, and I am excited to see the many talented students showcased at the festival,” he said.

Albert Roche, Manager of Student Services and Athletics, said the college was pleased to be able to present the festival.

“With so many talented students in our Photography and Digital Imaging, Graphic Design, Interactive Multimedia, Video Game Art and Design, and Fundamental Arts programs, the college was thrilled to be able to support such an innovative way for emerging artists to receive exposure for their work. We are very excited about the festival,” he said.

The Fringe Urban Festival presented by Holland College has seen overwhelming support from local and regional markets, with over 100,000 hits on www.fringeurban.com, a site which was designed by Holland College students.

The festival, which takes place May 15th to 17th, features events that fall under the umbrella of ”urban culture”, including competitions and demonstrations in
skateboarding, BMX bike, and skimboarding. Fashion shows focusing on emerging local designers and international brands will be held, along with urban art demonstrations and exhibits, and video and photography competitions and exhibits, all highlighted at an event that aims to expose and celebrate regional talent.

Music and dance will play a large part of the three days in the form of DJs, bands, and b-boy dancers. There will be DJs performing throughout the day, adding another layer of excitement to the events. Ticketed concerts will take place at night. These activities will be a combination of 19+ events and all ages shows.
