College announces new foundation program

A new program offering at Holland College will allow students to explore careers, to enhance and build on essential skills, and to prepare themselves for further post-secondary pursuits.

“With the changing economy and the increasing demand for highly skilled employees, we are seeing more individuals than ever looking to the college for their post-secondary training,” explainesd Dave Beaton, Director of Programs.  “This post-secondary program will allow people who, for various reasons, do not meet the entrance criteria or may not be sure of their career choice and consequently cannot gain the necessary experience. Once the students have successfully completed this program, they will be better equipped to enter a two year diploma program.”

The College Foundation certificate program is designed for students who may be unsure of their career interests, need specific experiences to ensure career choice is right for them, may not possess the necessary qualifications for their career choice, may require higher marks in core subjects, or who may simply benefit from a preparatory year in order to build skills and experiences while participating in a college environment. The program is also suitable for students who need more experience in Canadian post-secondary education or who have been out of school for some time.

In addition to eight core courses, students have the opportunity to select two elective courses from within various fields of study. Electives may be selected from academic upgrading, university, or other Holland College programs. Completed electives that meet Holland College program requirements will be transferrable to that specific program as credits.
