Board of governors welcomes new members


The Holland College Board of Governors welcomed two new members recently, bringing the board to its full complement of 16. Stan H. MacPherson, FCA , and Kathy McDonald joined the board earlier this month, Ray Murphy, Chair of the board announced recently.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. MacPherson and Ms. McDonald to the board. Both have a great deal of experience in their areas of expertise, and I look forward to their valuable contributions to our work,” He said. “As we continue our preparations for the 2009 fund raising campaign to be held in conjunction with the college’s 40th anniversary, board members will to play an integral part in the development of fund raising opportunities.”

The Holland College Board of Governors is comprised of representatives from the college’s staff and students, and from the community. The formulation, review and adoption of policies and regulations are the primary methods by which the board exercises its leadership in the governance of the college.  In addition, board members have fiduciary responsibilities for college finances. As advocates for Holland College, board members also help to enhance the college’s reputation by promoting the college in their day-to-day business activities.

Stan MacPherson has been a senior partner with MacPherson Roche Smith & Associates, Chartered Accountants and Management Consultants, since his company purchased the P.E.I. practice of Deloitte & Touche in 1995.  He previously worked as a partner and senior vice president for Deloitte & Touche Inc., partner and senior consultant with Ferris MacPherson Associates Inc., and a senior consultant with Matrix Management Consultants Ltd.  Mr. MacPherson has over forty years of financial management and consulting expertise. As a member of the Holland College Board of Governors, he will sit on the Finance Committee.

Ms. McDonald joined the PEI Department of Education in 2006 as Transitions Specialist after nearly twenty years of direct service to students in public education. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education degree from Mount Allison University, and a Master of Education degree from Saint Mary’s University. Her wealth of experience in education will serve the board well.  She will sit on the board’s program committee.

There were four other recent appointments to the board: faculty representatives Doris MacDonald and Gerald Caissy; and student representatives Landon Yuill and Marlene Simmons.

Other members of the board are: Ex officio members Dr. Brian McMillan, President, Holland College and Wade MacLauchlan, President, UPEI; Chair Ray Murphy, owner, Murphy’s Pharmacies; Vice Chair Kathy Hambly, Executive Director, Greater Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce; Past Chair Steve Loggie, Vice President, Customer Service, Maritime Electric Company Limited; Bill Dalziel, owner, Dalziel’s Auto Body; Dean Getson, Career Services Practitioner, Career Development Services; Rory Herget, Guidance Counsellor, Westisle Composite High School; Denis Thibodeau, Deputy Mayor of Souris and owner of Colville Bay Frame Shop; and Ken MacRae, Senior Director, Higher Education and Corporate Services.
