College and Sector Council Association sign MOU

Holland College and the Prince Edward Island Association of Sector Councils (PEIASC) recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that sets out a variety of measures to facilitate communications between industry stakeholders and the College. The agreement was formally signed on April 12th, 2006 at Holland College.

"Since its inception, Holland College has worked closely with Island industry to foresee and meet the changing knowledge and skill needs in the province," said Dr. Brian McMillan, President of Holland College. "With this new agreement signed today, we now have a forum in place which will enhance the College's ability to respond more quickly and effectively to industry's labour force requirements."

The PEIASC represents a wide variety of sector groups with a core objective to address the human resources needs of the province through the development of sector councils. Each sector council is an independent organization composed of representative bodies of an industry and provides a neutral forum to discuss human resource related matters, propose long-term solutions, and implement solutions to benefit the sector. Ken Ezeard, Chair of the PEIASC, says, "As the largest provider of trades, technical and vocational training in the province, Holland College provides an essential institutional foundation for human resources development in the province and is a key partner in addressing industry training needs." Sheila Lund MacDonald, Executive Director of the PEIASC agrees, "Both Holland College and the PEIASC have a mutual interest in current and future skills requirements and in the design of programs that will support these identified needs. I am looking forward to facilitating opportunities for ongoing consultation and collaboration between the Board of the PEIASC and Holland College."

The MOU outlines various mechanisms for communication, including a yearly planning conference, joint planning committees and ad hoc committee structures. For more information on sector councils go to the PEIASC website at www.peiasc.ca.

The PEI Association of Sector Councils is funded through the Canada/Prince Edward Island Labour Market Development Agreement, co-managed by Services Canada and the provincial Department of Development and Technology.
