Chef Michael Smith appointed to foundation board

The Holland College Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Chef Michael Smith to a position on the board, Chair Jim MacPhee announced today.

Renowned for his three television series, The Inn Chef, Chef at Large, and Chef at Home, Smith is also an award-winning cookbook author, newspaper columnist, roving Canadian cuisine ambassador and home cook.

"We are delighted to have Chef Michael join us on the board," MacPhee said. "He has long been a staunch supporter of Holland College and The Culinary Institute of Canada. I am sure that the talents and enthusiasm that he will bring to the board will be an enormous advantage as we move forward with our fundraising efforts."

Smith is eagerly anticipating his first board meeting, which takes place in October.

"The future of Prince Edward Island will continue to be enhanced by the educational prominence of Holland College and The Culinary Institute of Canada," he said. "I am proud to be a part of their world class success, and look forward to helping them continue to flourish!"

The Culinary Institute of Canada will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2008, and plans are underway on a variety of projects in relation to this milestone. To add to the excitement, the CIC has once again been selected to represent Canada in the World Culinary Olympics to be held in Erfurt, Germany, in October of 2008, the second consecutive time that CIC students will represent the country in this prestigious competition. While some funding is provided to the team, a significant amount of money will need to be raised to enable the eight-student team and their coaches to travel to Erfert, and to two competitions prior to the Olympics to represent the country in Scotland and Dubai.
