Textbooks can be purchased at Samuel’s Campus Store in the Charlottetown Centre on the Prince of Wales Campus, 140 Weymouth St, Charlottetown.

Program Structure

In the first year of the program, you will complete 140 hours of practical training in The Dining Room, developing professional behaviours and techniques for various food and beverage service environments. You will also complete a 120-hour practicum at several local hotel partners, developing your rooms division skills. You will take courses common to most program areas, such as Computer Essentials, Business Communications, Introduction to Financial Accounting, Introduction to Marketing, and Managing Human Resources. Additionally, you will take courses on a wide variety of topics to prepare you for the hospitality industry. These courses are scheduled for approximately 50-minute classes between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday. There will be additional scheduled learning in our "Learning Classroom", the Dining Room, on selected evenings. All schedules will be provided in advance so that you can plan your time.

Credit for Courses

If you wish to receive credit for a course that you have taken from another post-secondary institution, you will require the course outline with the number of hours of the course and a certified copy of the mark you received. Visit the Credit Transfer and PLAR page for more information. Your application for a transfer of credit will be reviewed for credit or for further assessment.

If you wish to receive credit for the following NCPR courses, you must submit a copy of your certificate to the department’s administrative support office. The certificate must be valid for the two years you are in the program. Upon submission, you will receive notice if your certificate is approved.

Familiarization Tours

You will participate in a familiarization bus tour in the first few weeks, giving you points of reference for classroom discussion. The tours include visits to Island breweries, distilleries, hotels, resorts, restaurant operations, culinary artisans, and many tourism product experiences.
