Soccer players, Rachel Green and Ehab Moustafa, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 6.
Green, from Carleton, Prince Edward Island, was solid in all three games the Hurricanes played last week. The centre back, in her first year with the Hurricanes, helped lead the charge as the ‘Canes defeated the University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves on Tuesday in Cornwall. She then scored the game winner on Saturday in Fredericton, New Brunswick versus the St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies in the 90’ in a battle of the top-two teams in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA). On Sunday versus the Seawolves in Saint John, she was steady again on defence as the ‘Canes shutout UNBSJ, 2-0.
Green, 5’8”, currently studies in the Open Academic Studies program at Holland College.
The women’s Hurricanes, currently 8-0-1, lead the ACAA standings with three regular season games remaining. They return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 16 at 7pm when they host the STU Tommies in Cornwall, PEI at the Terry Fox Sports Complex.
Moustafa, from Cairo, Egypt, scored in each of the Hurricanes three games last week in ACAA regular season action. Goals on Tuesday versus the Seawolves in Cornwall, Saturday in Fredericton versus the Tommies and Sunday in Saint John versus UNBSJ propelled the ‘Canes to the top of the ACAA standings with three regular season games remaining.
The 6’2” striker currently studies in the Sport and Leisure Management program at Holland College.
The men’s Hurricanes, 7-1-1, currently lead the ACAA standings by five points over the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics; they return to action on Wednesday, October 16 versus the STU Tommies at 7pm at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall, PEI.
