Video Game Music and Sound Design summer camps back

Holland College Canes Camp is offering the popular Video Game Music and Sound Design summer camps again this year, where students learn how to compose and record music and create sound effects electronically.

The week-long camps will be offered in July and August, and students are welcome to attend for more than one week if they want to. Offered through Canes Camps and the School of Performing Arts, the camps will be guided by Craig Dodge, an award-winning audio designer and film, television, and video game composer and an instructor in the college’s Music Performance program.

Dodge graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from UPEl with a Major in Classical Guitar and Musicology and has a Specialist Certificate in Orchestrating and Producing Music for Film and Video Games from the Berklee College of Music. As a film and television composer, his music is currently heard in over 150 films and television shows airing daily in over 110 countries worldwide. He has also composed music for more than 200 video games, also acting as the lead audio designer for the projects. Craig has performed in many genres of music including classical, Latin, blues, rock and country. He was one of the original members of the Latin group Esté Mundo and has played with many local and regional touring bands, including his own blues band, Dodge and the Pushbutton Automatics.

“This camp is perfect for students who are interested in writing music and want to learn how to develop their ideas and explore their creativity. They’ll learn how to use software to compose music for video games and to create sound effects,” he said.

The first camp starts Monday, July 8. A new camp starts every Monday after that until the final camp, which begins on August 8. The camps are open to students entering grades 4 to 12 and are $250 per week. Register for this camp here.
