Job Description
Job Descriptions:
- Refine and implement an island-wide riparian survey assessment while training a survey team to assist the island watershed groups
- Work with 24 groups to schedule a forestry crew and work within current provincial laws and BMPs to handle Fiona-related debris-either for removal or managed for habitat
- Supervise the testing of trial protocols and continued research into ecosystem service quantification by a forest technician (internship)
- Provide guidance to watershed groups on forest habitat improvement activities and identify future projects
- Coordinate activities such as: Training and supervising a survey team Managing a forestry crew for 24 island crews that include site visits Nursery development Mentoring students
Qualifications
Job Qualifications:
- A good understanding of PEI forests, watershed management initiatives, and environmental challenges that impact island ecosystems.
- The ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize information from various sources into written and oral reporting formats.
- Ability to communicate effectively with watershed groups and partners from many organizations to complete project activities via phone, online platforms, writing, and face-to-face communication.
- Excellent organization, time management, self-motivation, and the ability to collaborate well with various stakeholders and partners.
- Strong interest and background in community engagement, outreach, and education.
- A reliable vehicle and cell phone (mileage covered by PEIWA).
- Undergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary education institution within a related field of study OR a significant combination of training, experience, and education.
- Comfortable with public engagement, both in-person and online, using Zoom and Google platforms.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ArcGIS, as well as Google Drive.
- Previous experience working with watershed groups is an asset.
- Previous supervisory and/or project coordination in forestry is a necessary asset
