Job Description

This position will promote the PEI Apprenticeship Program through meetings and interactions with new/prospective apprentices, employers, and stakeholders within the trades. The Officer will also coordinate processes for advancing the Red Seal Brand, compulsory trades, and provincial trades in PEI. This will include recruitment, participation in Trade Advisory Committees (National, Atlantic, Provincial), administering progress and certification exams, and general client oversight to support apprentices and tradespeople towards advancing certification and career goals in the trades. Duties will include:

  • Reviewing and approving applications for apprenticeship, and completing the apprenticeship contract;
  • Maintaining logbooks through a content management system;
  • Receiving, investigating, and mediating participant complaints;
  • Facilitating trade advisory working groups including recruitment of participants of trade advisory groups, assisting with workshop facilitation and assisting on exam banks;
  • Promoting the apprenticeship program and careers in trade by participating in Career Days and Career Expos across the province;
  • Participating in the rollout and administration of pilot programming
  • Assisting in the scheduling of in-school training, and the administration and scheduling of apprenticeship progress exams; and
Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Red Seal Trade Certificate.
  • Extensive experience with apprenticeship, i.e. tradesperson, trades instructor, trades company owner, or trades administrator;
  • Experience in the administration and/or case management required in the delivery of programs or services principally targeting youth;
  • Experience in outreach to industry;
  • Experience in the use of software including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
  • Experience working with stakeholders on a project, (i.e. vendor groups or levels of government);
  • Must be able to work independently and be highly self-motivated and directed;
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, negotiating, inter-personal, and communications skills; and
  • A proven ability to develop good working relations with external organizations and agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree diploma or certificate within trades is an asset
  • Working knowledge and experience in change management processes is an asset
  • Experience with negotiation and facilitation is an asset
