After a weekend away from home, the Holland Hurricanes are gearing up for a full slate of home-court action.
With the final men’s volleyball games of 2025 and long-awaited home-openers for both basketball clubs on tap, this upcoming weekend is loaded with entertainment for the Holland College community.
Six games. Four teams. Two days. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of this weekend’s Holland Hurricanes action in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) competition on Saturday, Nov. 22, and Sunday, Nov. 23, at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Women’s Volleyball
The women’s volleyball Hurricanes are prepping for their first doubleheader of the season, with a pair of home games that’ll be crucial in the team’s push to climb the standings ahead of the holiday break.
Sitting sixth in the conference with a 3-4 record, two points behind fourth (tied by STU and Mount Allison) and one ahead of seventh, Holland will be visited by teams both above and below them in the standings.
On Saturday, the University of King’s College (UKC) Blue Devils will arrive on P.E.I. hungry to snap a six-game skid. After a straight-set sweep on their home court to start their campaign, the Blue Devils have yet to repeat that same success, with four of their six losses including 3-0 results. UKC last played Holland on Nov. 2 in Halifax, N.S., with the Hurricanes winning 3-0.
On Sunday comes the bigger challenge for the Hurricanes, at least, on paper. The Dalhousie Rams, who are 5-3 and tied for second with MSVU, had a strong start to the season, pulling off five wins in their first six games. However, they recently lost twice to UNBSJ and hope for a quick turnaround this weekend. Before their first trip to Holland, they will visit MSVU on Friday, which could provide extra momentum if all goes well.
As for the Hurricanes, they recently lost 3-0 to Mount Allison in a rare Tuesday night match in Sackville, N.B., and seek a bounce back this weekend. For every game they’ve won thus far, the final score has been 3-0 – will that streak continue?
Keep an eye on… fifth-year left-side Jamie Spencer (Fort Frances, Ontario). The most recent Hurricanes Female Athlete of the Week made her first start of the season last Saturday and shone in a 3-0 victory against USTA, registering nine kills, a high .381 hitting percentage, two service aces, two blocks, and seven digs.

Men’s Volleyball
The men’s volleyball Hurricanes will conclude the 2025 portion of their regular-season campaign this weekend in front of their fans, welcoming the Dalhousie Rams to town on Saturday and Sunday.
While the Hurricanes have struggled as of recently, with three consecutive losses and having lost four of their previous five matches, a big opportunity for an offensive explosion and to end the first half on a high note comes this weekend.
The Rams have yet to win a game after eight tries and win more than one set in a single match. In total, they’ve won three of 27 sets contested on the season thus far.
The statistics favour Holland by a long shot, but this doubleheader will be the first between these two teams, so anything is possible.
The team’s goodbye to 2025 commences on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and wraps up on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Catch both games at www.youtube.com/@GoCanesGo.

Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball Hurricanes will finally get to play in front of their home crowd in regular-season competition for the first time since last February this weekend.
Coming off a successful road swing with three victories in four games, the team, which underwent a significant roster overhaul over the offseason, heads into its home opener with tremendous confidence, while tied with three other teams for the conference lead (six points each).
With several rookies impressing right off the hop and numerous veterans (particularly sophomores) stepping up in key moments, this Saturday’s game is anticipated to be an exciting, must-see showdown.
For Holland’s home-court debut, the St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies will be the first team to make a stop on Prince Edward Island this season. They are another team tied for the league lead, also carrying a 3-1 record.
Their start to the season has been a little different, as they ride a three-game winning streak into this Saturday’s game, which will be the first against Holland this season.
Keep an eye on… second-year shooting guard Nykeva Brown (Halifax, N.S.), the team’s leading scorer. Fifth in the conference with 57 points, she saved her squad from a narrow defeat against UNBSJ last Saturday with two clutch free throws within the final minute of play.
Keep an eye on… rookie guard Maryn Kline (Halifax, N.S.), who made her first career ACAA start last Saturday. She logged an impressive 16 points, a 5-for-12 field-goal record, a 2-for-6 three-point record, a 4-for-5 free-throw record, four rebounds, and one assist across 27 minutes of play.
Tune in to the action on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at www.youtube.com/@GoCanesGo.

Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball Hurricanes will join the women in opening the home portion of their regular-season campaign this weekend as well, also welcoming the STU Tommies to Charlottetown.
The men had a rougher four-game road stretch to start things off, only capturing one victory. Their recent defeat was a tough one, as they had a fiery start in the first half against UNBSJ, but were stunned by the Seawolves’ second-half explosion.
With their lone match this weekend coming in front of their fans comes an opportunity to rally off the hype and energy and get back on the winning track, but so does a pressing challenge from the Tommies, who the Hurricanes are six points behind.
STU remains undefeated after four games, having scored over 90 points in each of them and currently holding onto an average of 105.5 points per game. They’re tied with UNBSJ for the conference lead.
Keep an eye on… fourth-year guard/forward Spencer Rossiter (Summerside, P.E.I.), the most recent Hurricanes Male Athlete of the Week. He earned his honours after a strong performance against UNBSJ last Saturday, leading the team with 15 points on 6/13 shooting and adding three steals and two assists.
