It’s all road games for the Holland Hurricanes this weekend, with the halfway mark of November featuring four winter-sport clubs on numerous volleyball and basketball courts across New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Here’s how to stay caught up on all of the Holland Hurricanes action in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) competition on Saturday, Nov. 15, and Sunday, Nov. 16, away from home.
Women’s Volleyball
The women’s volleyball Hurricanes look to climb up the conference standings this Saturday with a trip to Pointe-de-L’Eglise, N.S., to take on the Université de Saint-Anne (USTA) Dragons.
Coming off a weekend with a road loss against Crandall and a straight-set sweep at home against Mount Allison, Holland has a big opportunity this weekend against a team on a four-game skid with a set differential of -14 (three set wins, 17 set losses), versus Holland’s one.
USTA is two points behind Holland in the standings, currently tied with UKC for seventh, while Holland is in a three-way tie with Crandall and STU for fourth.
After splitting their two season-opening matches against STU and UKC, the Dragons have gone winless in their last four contests, with doubleheader sweeps by Dalhousie and UNBSJ, all coming in straight sets. They seek their first home win this Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have been back-and-forth after five games, currently holding onto a 2-3 record, and seek to build some consistency throughout the remainder of November. Considering both of their wins have come without a set loss, that may be a sign of what’s to come if things go in the right direction.
Saturday’s game is the first between Holland and USTA this season, and it begins at 6:00 p.m. Watch live at acaa.tv.

Madelyn Tomyn (second-year setter, Prince Albert, SK) – Recorded 15 assists in last Sunday’s 3-0 win against Mount Allison, playing a key role as an offensive driver.
Jaqui Jubinville (third-year libero, Calgary, AB) – Remains strong in the dig category, notably totalling 16 across last weekend’s two games. Has been a significant defensive contributor, registering 46 digs after five games.

Men’s Volleyball
The men’s volleyball Hurricanes will join the women in Pointe-de-L’Eglise, N.S., this weekend to do battle with the USTA Dragons, with one difference – the men will play a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday.
The men also split their two road games last weekend, with their win over Crandall featuring a thrilling comeback rally. Carrying a 3-3 record after six games and sitting fourth in the conference standings, two points behind a two-way tie for second, the Hurricanes will have a tough challenge ahead against one of the tied teams.
USTA had a rough start to the season with back-to-back losses against STU, but has since pulled off four straight victories, with three being straight-set shutouts. It was a strong beginning to a stretch of six home games (three doubleheaders) over three weekends, and the Dragons vie to keep the momentum going on their court.
This weekend’s doubleheader will be the first between Holland and USTA this season. Saturday’s game is at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday’s game is at 12:00 p.m. Catch both games live at acaa.tv.

Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball Hurricanes will conclude a four-game road stretch to start the season this Saturday with a stop in Saint John, N.B., to clash with the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves.
Holland hopes to bounce back after a 71-55 loss against MSVU last Saturday in Halifax, N.S., which left them in a tie with Mount Allison and STU for second in the conference standings. A win this Saturday would provide crucial momentum as the Hurricanes near their home-opener on the following weekend.
The Seawolves, who will play Holland for the first time this season this weekend, are 1-2 after three games, most recently going 1-1 in a pair of road games against UKC and Mount Allison.
Saturday’s game starts at 6:00 p.m. Tune in live at acaa.tv.
Players To Keep An Eye On…
Sophie LeClair (rookie forward, Cornwall, P.E.I.) – The most recent Hurricanes Female Athlete of the Week performed brilliantly in her third career ACAA game last Saturday, scoring eight points, achieving a perfect field-goal record, and performing strongly defensively.
Karissa George (second-year guard, New Glasgow, N.S.) – The sophomore has been on fire the past two games, with her most recent performance including 10 points, a 4-for-13 field-goal record, a 2-for-3 free-throw record, six rebounds, one steal, and one block across 31 minutes of court action.

Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball Hurricanes will also wrap up a four-game road swing to start their campaign by heading to Saint John, N.B., this Saturday to duel with the UNBSJ Seawolves.
The men were also defeated by MSVU in Halifax, N.S., last Saturday and are hungry for better this weekend. The one difference with the women is that the men are 1-2 after three games and are in a four-way tie for third with three other teams, all with the same record.
Holland is four points behind a red-hot Seawolves squad that is unbeaten after three games, recently fresh off back-to-back road victories against UKC and Mount Allison. If the Hurricanes are the first team to defeat UNBSJ, that’ll be a major storyline heading into their home-opener the following weekend.
Witness this first-time match between Holland and UNBSJ live on acaa.tv at 8:00 p.m.
Players To Keep An Eye On…
Zachary Dawkins (fourth-year guard, Edmonton, Alberta) – Continues to chase the top spot in conference points, with his 21-point performance in last Saturday’s game currently leaving him five points behind MSVU’s Isaiah Cromwell-Wright.
Dorrell Bedminster (fourth-year guard, Hamilton, Ontario) – Contributed 10 points, a 2-for-5 three-point record, a 4-for-4 free-throw record, and a one in each of rebounds, assists, and steals in last Saturday’s match.
