It’s a full slate of Holland Hurricanes home-court volleyball action this weekend!
The women’s and men’s volleyball teams will each host doubleheaders to close out January and begin February, with four total Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular-season games between Saturday, Jan. 31, and Sunday, Feb. 1, at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Here’s what you need to know for each team and their situation heading into this weekend’s matches, along with important fan-related information.
Women’s Volleyball
The women’s volleyball Hurricanes enter this weekend looking to bounce back from two straight-set losses against the second-ranked STU Tommies on the road last weekend.
While the Hurricanes came up empty-handed against STU, they consistently kept the Tommies under immense pressure and made their presence known. They’ll aim to raise their game by a notch this weekend and continue to prove that they can compete against the best and should be in the championship conversation. The next test comes on Saturday against the league-leading Mount Allison Mounties.
The Mounties lead the conference with a 12-4 record and 24 points, having played a few more games than everybody else (16 versus some 15s, 14s, 13s, etc.). Holland has two in hand while currently tied for fourth with Dalhousie and MSVU, each with 16 points.
Notably, like Holland, Mount Allison recently had a winning streak snapped after a 3-2 loss to UNBSJ last Sunday. The Hurricanes and Mounties may carry significantly different records, but both squads will be equally hungry to return to the win column.
The regular-season series is tied 1-1 following a 3-0 Hurricanes win on Nov. 9, 2025, in Charlottetown, P.E.I., and a 3-0 Mounties victory on Nov. 18, 2025, in Sackville, N.B.
Then, on Sunday, the Hurricanes will host the seventh-place Crandall University Chargers, whose situation is a lot more dire. The Chargers (5-8, 13 games played) have lost their last three matches and are 10 points behind the cutline. Desperation could be a huge factor when Crandall comes to town, and the two teams meet for the second and final time during the regular season. Holland lost the previous battle 3-1 on Nov. 8, 2025, in Moncton, N.B.

Men’s Volleyball
The men’s volleyball Hurricanes will be just as determined as the women to return to victory lane after a pair of losses in a rivalry doubleheader against the league-leading STU Tommies on the road last weekend.
While the men squeaked out one set win, the Tommies didn’t give them a single break from there on out, taking the next three that day and all three on Sunday.
Following that doubleheader, the Hurricanes find themselves tied for the fourth and final playoff spot with six games remaining, and the team they’re tied with is the one they’ll play twice this weekend.
Holland and the Crandall University Chargers each have 6-8 records, 12 points, and some form of a cold streak – Holland three, Crandall two. Both teams are two points behind UNBSJ (7-7, 14 points) for third, offering both the Hurricanes and Chargers an opportunity this weekend to leapfrog the Seawolves, who will face second-place USTA.
Crandall has yet to make the playoffs since joining the conference during the 2023-24 season. Match that with a team trying to fight back from back-to-back semifinal losses to the Tommies, and that’s a recipe for not just a battle, but an all-out war at the McMillan Centre this weekend, as the Hurricanes and Chargers not only try to claw for every crucial point they can get, but further separate themselves from the cutline.
This may very well be the most important doubleheader of the season, considering how the remainder of the regular-season schedule plays out for UNBSJ, Holland, and Crandall:
UNBSJ - 3rd / 7-7 / 14 points
vs USTA (second, 14-1) x2
@ Dalhousie (sixth, 0-14) x2
vs STU (first, 13-1) x2
Holland - T-4th / 6-8 / 12 points
vs Crandall x2
vs USTA (second, 14-1) x2
@ Dalhousie (sixth, 0-14) x2
Crandall - T-4th / 6-8 / 12 points
@ Holland x2
@ STU (first, 13-1) x2
vs USTA (second, 14-1) x2
