The Holland Hurricanes are thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with the PEI School Athletic Association (PEISAA), solidifying an agreement to host the Senior Provincial Championships for A, AA, and AAA Volleyball and Basketball at the McMillan Centre in Charlottetown through 2027.
As part of this agreement, the PEISAA will have access to the Hurricanes’ gymnasium, locker rooms, and viewing areas, with support from Hurricanes staff to ensure a seamless event experience. Holland College students will also play an integral role, serving as hosts and gaining valuable hands-on experience in event management during these championships.
“We’ve had a strong relationship with the PEISAA for many years, and this partnership is a natural extension of that connection,” says Albert Roche, Holland College’s Director of Athletics and Recreation. “Our facilities provide an ideal setting for showcasing the province’s top volleyball and basketball talent, while our students and staff benefit from being directly involved in hosting these prestigious events. After the tremendous success of the volleyball championships this fall, we’re eagerly anticipating the basketball championships in March.”
The volleyball championships were held across three dates in November and proved to be a resounding success. Spectators filled the stands, enjoying games from multiple bleachers and the overhead walking track. Student-athletes and coaches appreciated the large, modern gym and spacious locker rooms, which set the stage for memorable competitions.
The upcoming basketball championships will return to Holland College in March 2025, following a similar format over three days. This partnership marks a three-year agreement with options to expand and host additional events.
“We are excited to partner with Holland College and host our Provincial Championships in such a high-quality facility,” says Mike Connolly, PEISAA Coordinator. “The venue allows for more spectators and provides spacious, comfortable amenities for teams, elevating the overall experience of our events. This collaboration aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing the best possible opportunities for student-athletes.”
