Charlottetown, PEI – Holland College is thrilled to announce that it will host the 2025 Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Volleyball Championships at the McMillan Centre in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The event will take place from February 21 to February 23, 2025.
The 2025 ACAA Volleyball Championships will feature the top six women's teams and the top four men's teams, as determined by their ACAA regular season standings. This highly anticipated event promises to showcase the best collegiate volleyball talent in Atlantic Canada.
In addition to the exciting matches, the 2024-25 ACAA Volleyball Awards banquet will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025. This prestigious event will honor outstanding student-athletes, coaches, and contributors to the sport of volleyball within the ACAA.
"This Championship will build on our reputation as a host that provides a superlative student-athlete experience and engages with our Island volleyball community. This will be a tremendous opportunity for fans to enjoy the competition and for us to showcase volleyball once again," said Albert Roche, the Director of Athletics and Recreation at Holland College, and the President of the ACAA.
In 2024, the event was hosted by the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves. The defending champions are the University of King’s College (UKC) Blue Devils (women’s) and St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies (men’s). The Hurricanes have won titles at the ACAA Championships on four occasions: in 2017 and 2019 for the men, and 2020 and 2023 for the women.
This is the second time the Hurricanes have hosted the ACAA Volleyball Championships, last doing so in 2019. The ‘Canes have also hosted three national volleyball championships in recent years, first hosting the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) men’s event in 2015, before hosting the women’s national events in 2016 and 2022.
Current members of the Hurricanes, Morgan White and Carson Gray, are excited to have the chance to compete for a championship in their hometowns.
“Hosting ACAA Championships is always an amazing opportunity as the overwhelming Island support creates such an awesome atmosphere,” shared Gray.
“I’m really excited; it’s a great opportunity to represent Holland on our home turf,” shared White. “We always have a great atmosphere in our gym during home matches thanks to our amazing fans in the stands. On top of that, I know our Athletics Dpartment will make it a special experience for all those who are involved in the event.”
