Soccer players, Reese Kelly and Mohammad Alhaj Ali, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 18.
Kelly (Charlottetown, PEI), helped the ‘Canes secure a 2-2 tie on Saturday with the University of King’s College (UKC) Blue Devils in Halifax; she scored the ‘Canes second goal in the match in the 63’.
The second-year midfielder/striker showed great technical ability all weekend, with her hold up play and linking with teammates. She was constantly active and an attacking threat in two tough games on the road.
The Hurricanes completed the weekend by dropping their match to the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics on Sunday, 2-0, falling to 2-1-1 on the season and sitting in second in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) standings.
The ‘Canes will visit the Crandall University Chargers (1-3-0) in Moncton on Saturday before hosting the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams (0-4-0) on Sunday in Cornwall.
Alhaj Ali (Daraa, Syria), led the men’s soccer ‘Canes to two victories over the weekend in ACAA regular season action. He scored the ‘Canes second goal versus UKC on Saturday in the 41’, and led the Hurricanes to a 3-1 win on Sunday versus MSVU by scoring all three of the Holland College goals.
The second-year striker displayed top-class finishing over the weekend as he powered the ‘Canes to two victories, improving the teams record to 3-0-1 and in first place in the ACAA standings.
The Hurricanes are in Moncton, NB on Saturday to take on the Crandall University Chargers (0-3-1) before returning home to host the Dal AC Rams (0-3-1) on Sunday in Cornwall.
