AOTW | Kristyn Taylor Emma Arsenault named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

By Reegan MacAulay

Women’s hockey players Kristyn Taylor and Emma Arsenault have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 9, 2025.

This past weekend, Taylor and Arsenault helped the women’s hockey Hurricanes go undefeated and win their fourth, and third-straight, Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) championship at the 2025 ACHA Championship in Cape Breton, N.S. Across three games in two days, each player showcased exceptional skills and outstanding leadership on and off the ice, instilling hope and confidence into their group before each match and staying calm under immense pressure as leaders and veterans.

Taylor, a second-year forward, dual-sport athlete, and the team captain from Summerside, P.E.I., earned Hurricanes Athlete of the Week honours for the first time this season and Hurricanes Women’s Hockey Player of the Week honours for the third time. She scored four goals and two assists, matching her regular-season goal record (four goals in 10 games) in three games. Two of her goals were game-winners in back-to-back games and two came in Sunday’s 5-1 championship final win against Acadia. She is now a two-time ACHA champion (2024, 2025), adding to a successful Hurricanes resume since 2023 that includes an ACAA women’s soccer championship and CCAA women’s soccer nationals bronze medal.

Arsenault, a fourth-year goaltender from Searletown, P.E.I., earned Hurricanes Athlete of the Week honours for the first time this season and Hurricanes Women’s Hockey Player of the Week honours for the second time. After recording a 4-4-1 regular-season record with a 2.67 goals-against-average and 0.928 save percentage, she peaked at the perfect time, saving her best performances for last. In three games, she recorded three wins, one shutout (2-0 against CBU, denied all 36 shots), 100 saves on 102 shots, a 0.67 goals-against-average, and a 0.980 save percentage. Since her first ACHA Championship final in 2022, she has won three of the last four, continuing her legacy as one of the greatest goaltenders in team history.

At Saturday’s awards gathering, Taylor was named to the 2024-25 ACHA 1st All-Star Team and Arsenault was named to the 2024-25 ACHA 2nd All-Star Team. Congratulations on your accomplishments and capturing the three-peat for Holland College, Kristyn and Emma!

The women’s hockey Hurricanes’ season has ended after a 4-5-1 regular-season (second-ranked) and a 2025 ACHA Championship victory.
