AOTW | Nykeva Brown & Keiran Hamlin Named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Women’s basketball player Nykeva Brown and men’s volleyball player Keiran Hamlin have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 18, 2026.

Brown, a second-year shooting guard from Halifax, N.S., studying Early Childhood Education, set career-high statistics during her team’s successful return to home court this past weekend. The Hurricanes completed a doubleheader sweep against the UKC Blue Devils on Saturday and Sunday at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Brown recorded 28 points in Saturday’s game, leading the Hurricanes to an 82-67 victory. She added another 21 points in Sunday’s 83-69 win. In addition to her elite offense during the weekend series, she also performed great defensively.

Brown and the women’s basketball Hurricanes have won their last five games and will look to continue their mid-season surge in an away-and-home doubleheader against the Mount Allison Mounties this Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25.

Hamlin, a rookie outside hitter from Winnipeg, MB, studying Business Administration, was tasked to play in a new position during his team’s return to action from the holiday break.

While the Hurricanes split their home-court doubleheader against the UNBSJ Seawolves on Saturday and Sunday, 3-2 and 1-3, Hamlin excelled in both matches. He combined for 12 kills at a .409 hitting percentage, seven total blocks, four aces, and six digs.

Hamlin and the men’s volleyball Hurricanes are back at it next weekend – Jan. 24-25 – with a road trip to Fredericton, N.B., to take on the league-leading STU Tommies in a rivalry doubleheader.
