Volleyball 'Canes to host Mounties, visit Seawolves

The Holland Hurricanes women’s volleyball team will host the Mount Allison University Mounties at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement (CCE) in Charlottetown, PEI on Saturday at 1pm before hitting the road for New Brunswick to take on the University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves on Sunday at 4:30pm.

The ‘Canes enter play with an 11-0 record and lead the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) standings while the Mounties sit in second at 10-2; the Seawolves are in seventh at 2-8.

The Hurricanes are also the only Atlantic team featured in this week’s Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national rankings at number ten.

This season the ‘Canes have defeated the Mounties in both matchups picking up a pair of four set wins, once at home on December 3 and the other on the road last Friday.

The ‘Canes defeated the Seawolves at home earlier this month in straight sets in their only other meeting this season.

As a team, the ‘Canes lead the conference in kills per set (10.38), assists per set (9.73), and service aces per set (5.32).

Individually the ‘Canes attack is led by Abby Hyndman and Sam Gerbig who are first and third in kills per set in the ACAA at 3.26 and 2.64 respectively.

The ‘Canes have the top-three positions in the ACAA in service aces per set with Gerbig (1.3), Kateia Barenaba (1.16) and Marissa Macaulay (1.11); Macaulay also currently leads the ACAA in assists per set at 8.05.

Both games this weekend will be available to live stream at www.acaatv.ca.

Saturday’s Hurricanes home game versus the Mounties is also Domino’s Day.  Fans in attendance will have opportunities to win prizes and pizza compliments of Domino’s.
