The Holland Hurricanes women’s hockey team hit the road this weekend to take on the Acadia University Axewomen in Wolfville, Nova Scotia to close out their 2019-20 Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) regular season. Games take place at 4:45pm on Saturday and 11:30am on Sunday at the arena on the Acadia University campus.
The Axewomen lead the ACHA standings with a 5-1-0 regular season record while the ‘Canes sit at 2-3-1; they’re in a tie for second place with the Cape Breton University (CBU) Capers. The Hurricanes only need a tie this weekend to finish in second place on their own entering the league championship.
In two previous meetings this season the Axewomen earned 4-2 wins, first on November 2 and again on November 3; both games were played in Montague, PEI at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre.
Offensively for the ‘Canes this season, Jacy McMillan leads the team with four goals while Claire Renken leads with three assists; they both sit at six points this season, leading the Hurricanes.
In goal, Maddy Doherty has a record of 1-0-1, a 2.00 goals-against-average and one shutout, while Lindsey Minard has a goals-against-average of 3.50 and a record of 1-3-0.
The Hurricanes, Axewomen and Capers are preparing for next weeks ACHA Championship, hosted by the Hurricanes at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague.
The championship begins on Friday, March 6 when the ‘Canes host the Axewomen at 8:15pm before Acadia takes on the Capers on Saturday, March 7 at 10:20am. The round-robin concludes at 7:55pm on Saturday when the Capers and Hurricanes face-off.
Sunday, March 8 at 2:20pm is when the championship game will be played, crowning the 2020 Atlantic Champion.
