Football 'Canes breakthrough with big win in Saint John

The Hurricanes made a statement on Sunday in Saint John, New Brunswick, defeating the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves, 43-0, in Atlantic Football League regular season action.

With the victory, the Hurricanes improve to 1-2 on the season and sit in third place behind the 3-0 University of New Brunswick (UNB) Red Bombers and 2-1 Dalhousie University Tigers. The UNBSJ Seawolves fall to 0-3 following their loss on Sunday.

The Hurricanes will continue their season with a key game versus the Tigers this Saturday, October 9 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  The Tigers previously defeated the Hurricanes on September 25, 35-0.  The ‘Canes next home game takes place on Saturday, October 16 versus the Seawolves.

On Sunday, the Hurricanes would score early and often. Already up 7-0 early in the first, Austin Walker would add to the lead, giving the ‘Canes a 14-0 advantage through the first quarter.

A one-yard rushing touchdown in the second would extend the Hurricanes lead to 21-0 entering halftime.

Touchdowns by Brian Fitzgerald and Brandon Ndiweni in the third would have the ‘Canes up 35-0 entering the final frame.  They added eight-points in the fourth to claim the 43-0 victory.
