The Holland Hurricanes nationally ranked men’s and women’s basketball teams are in action this weekend against the University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves and Mount Allison University Mounties in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season play.
The ‘Canes will be at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement (CCE) in Charlottetown, PEI on Saturday for afternoon games versus the Seawolves with the women on the floor at 1pm followed by the men at 3pm. The action makes its way to Sackville, New Brunswick on Sunday when the ‘Canes visit the Mounties at 2 and 4pm (w/m).
The women’s Hurricanes, 6-2 and in third place in the ACAA standings, will meet the Seawolves for the second time this season, last earning the 94-69 victory on November 9 in Charlottetown. UNBSJ sits at 2-7 this season and in sixth place.
Sunday’s opponent, the Mount Allison Mounties, are 4-5 this season and in fifth place in the ACAA standings. The ‘Canes earned a victory in their only meeting this season, a 75-54 win on November 16 in Sackville.
The men’s Hurricanes enter the weekend at 6-2 and in third place in the conference as they take on the 1-8, seventh place Seawolves on Saturday at the CCE. The ‘Canes meet UNBSJ having won their previous meeting on November 9, 100-69.
The Mounties, the Hurricanes opponents on Sunday, are 7-2 this season and currently sitting atop the ACAA standings alongside the St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies; the ‘Canes trail both teams by just two points with games in-hand.
The ‘Canes will be looking for redemption on Sunday after falling to the Mounties on November 16 in Sackville by a score of 93-67.
