Women’s volleyball player, Katie Wood, and men’s basketball player, Antonio Kostakos, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 18.
Wood, a libero in her first season with the ‘Canes, recorded 13 digs and two kills in Saturday’s four-set victory over the Dal AC Rams at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement.
Her consistent play this season for the ‘Canes has made her a leader on the roster.
The Hurricanes improved their record to 4-2 on the season and sit in a tie for third in the ACAA standings with the victory.
Wood 5’8”, is from Regina, Saskatchewan.
Kostakos, a third-year guard from Halifax, Nova Scotia, entered Saturday’s game off the bench to guide the ‘Canes to a 119-43 victory over the Dal AC Rams at home. He earned 24 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in the victory.
He had another strong performance in Sunday’s 120-65 defeat over the UKC Blue Devils, adding 14 points, three rebounds and a steal in the win.
The Hurricanes are 6-0 on the season and leading the ACAA standings; they’re also positioned at number two in the most recent CCAA National rankings.
Kostakos, 6’1”, is studying in the Sport & Leisure Management program.
The men’s basketball Hurricanes will return to the court on Friday when they host the Mount Allison Mounties at 8pm at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement while the women’s volleyball ‘Canes are on the road this weekend, taking on the STU Tommies on Saturday and Sunday in Fredericton, NB.
