Soccer players Jade Stewart and Theo Ngezahayo have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 16.
Stewart, a first year left wing, scored the Hurricanes only goal on Saturday in their 4-1 loss to the MSVU Mystics while also scoring in Sunday’s 4-3 win over the UKC Blue Devils. Stewart has four goals through four games to start her collegiate soccer career with the Hurricanes.
The women’s Hurricanes are 3-1-0 this season and in second place in the ACAA standings.
The 5’3”, Warwick, Bermuda student-athlete is studying in the Sport & Leisure Management program at Holland College.
Ngezahayo, from Butare, Rawanda, scored three goals over the weekend to help keep the Hurricanes perfect record intact. All three of his goals came in Sunday’s match against the UKC Blue Devils which saw the ‘Canes take the win 6-2.
The 5’6”, midfielder is in his third year at Holland College; he is currently studying in the Human Resource Management program.
The men’s Hurricanes are sitting atop the ACAA standings with a 4-0 record; they’ve earned wins over the DAL AC Rams, Crandall Chargers, MSVU Mystics and UKC Blue Devils to begin their season.
The men’s and women’s soccer ‘Canes will be back in action with a pair of matches in New Brunswick this weekend when they visit the UNBSJ Seawolves on Saturday (2/4pm, w/m) before taking on the STU Tommies on Sunday (1:15/3:15pm, w/m).
The next home games for the soccer Hurricanes are on Wednesday, October 10 when they host the Crandall Chargers at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall at 6 and 8pm (w/m).
