Soccer player, Nicole Fergusson, and baseball player, Tyler Johnston, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 23.
Fergusson, a third-year player from Oakfield, NS, scored the Hurricanes only goal in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over the UNBSJ Seawolves in Saint John, NB. It was her second goal of the season.
The women’s soccer ‘Canes went 1-1 over the weekend and are now 4-2-0 and in third place in the ACAA regular season standings.
The 5’6” striker is currently studying in the Sport & Leisure Management program at Holland College.
The women’s soccer ‘Canes return to action this weekend when they visit the MSVU Mystics and UKC Blue Devils in Halifax; their next home game takes place on Wednesday, October 10 when they host the Crandall Chargers at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall.
Johnston, a first-year pitcher from Cardigan, PEI, improved his regular season record to 3-0 on Saturday in a five-inning performance versus the Dalhousie Tigers in Halifax. He allowed just two runs, none earned, on four hits while retiring five batters by way of strikeout and did not walk a batter in the win.
The men’s baseball ‘Canes completed their regular season over the weekend, finishing with a perfect 10-0 record versus Atlantic Canadian university competition.
The 6’1” player is currently enrolled in the Construction Technology program at Holland College.
The men’s baseball Hurricanes are preparing to attend the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Championships in Toronto, ON, hosted by the Humber College Hawks; the event takes place October 25-28.
