    Hurricanes celebrate ACAA win

In the fall of 2011, the Holland Hurricanes men's soccer team stole the headlines back home.

After winning the ACAA championship, the Hurricanes stunned the defending champion Vancouver Island University Mariners squad before defeating Champlain St-Lambert to reach the gold medal game, where they pushed the NAIT Ooks to extra time before settling for silver in a 2-1 loss, but still winning the first CCAA men's soccer medal in ACAA history, let alone Holland College.

The accolade earned the Hurricanes the SCORE Team of the Year award at the 2011-12 Sport PEI Awards.

The result had expectations skyrocketing for the Hurricanes in 2012, and they didn't disappoint.

With CCAA tournament all-stars Jeremy Joly (who was also named an Academic All-Canadian), David Ahadzi and Jordan Lindsay back in the fold, and a talented roster from top to bottom, the men's Hurricanes went undefeated in the regular season, compiling a 6-0-4 record while only conceding four goals the entire season.

The results helped the Hurricanes get as high as second overall in the CCAA rankings, another school record.
As a result, Hurricanes populated the conference all-star teams. In total, four players being named First Team All-Stars including Joly (who was later named a CCAA All-Canadian), Adam Fitzgerald, Evan Forrester and Logan Doiron, who also took home the award for top keeper in the ACAA.

In addition, Lindsay was recognized as a Second Team All-Star, joined by Kelsey Jones and captain Simon Hood, the reigning Hurricanes male athlete of the year.

Jonathan Vos claimed his second consecutive ACAA coach of the year award, which he topped by being named CCAA coach of the year as well.

The Hurricanes won their second straight ACAA championship and third in four years, which sent them to Coquitlam, B.C., for the CCAA men's soccer championships, where they were seeded second.

However, there would be no repeat of the magic from 2011, as Vancouver Island University avenged their loss to Holland College from a year earlier on opening day by a score of 3-0.

The Hurricanes found themselves with even more familiar company in their second match, playing out a rematch of the 2011 CCAA championship game against NAIT. Unlike 2012, NAIT didn't need extra time to take out the Hurricanes, also by a 3-0 margin.

The result meant Holland College had to play the SAIT Trojans for seventh place. SAIT won the match 4-0, sending the Hurricanes to an eighth-place finish.

The men's Hurricanes are building something special, and they will look to make their third consecutive CCAA appearance as the 2013 CCAA men's soccer championships return to Atlantic Canada, with the UNB-Saint John Seawolves serving as the hosts.

Hurricanes Men's Soccer - 2012 ACAA Champions

This story has been taken from The Guardian Newspaper - Monday, October 29, 2012

Evan Forrester scored the game-winning goal in the first minute of play Sunday as the Holland College Hurricanes blanked the King's College Blue Devils 2-0 to win their second consecutive Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association soccer championship in as many years.

The win caps an undefeated Atlantic season (8-0-4) for the top-ranked Hurricanes, who advance to nationals in New Westminster, B.C. from Nov. 7 to 10.
The women lost their final 1-0 to the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics, but still advance to the eight-team Canadian championship as host team for the Nov. 7 to 10 tourney. In was the Hurricanes (10-1-1) first loss of the season.

Men

The Hurricanes downed the third-ranked Blue Devils to repeat as the conference champs.
Holland College jumped out to an early lead on Forrester's goal. That would prove to be all first-team all-conference selection and goalkeeper of the year Logan Doiron needed to secure the victory for the Hurricanes.

Forrester scored his second of the game late in the first half to round out the scoring and was named the team's player of the game. Noem Sain received the award for King's.
The Blue Devils pressed lated in the game for a goal, including bringing keeper Justin Pyne into the attack. It almost worked, with one scoring opportunity ricocheting off the post and the crossbar before flying out of harms way.

The Hurricanes head back to nationals after finishing second a year ago.

Women

Mount Saint Vincent upset the top-ranked Hurricanes with Carleigh Hiltz scoring the lone goal of the game early in the second half.
The highly contested match came down to the final minutes, with both goalkeepers making critical saves.
Second-team all-conference keeper Danielle Cyr finished the game with a shutout while goalkeeper of the year Amanda Wheatley made several acrobatic stops for Holland College.
The Mount won the contest without conference player of the year Emily Burke, who was out with a concussion.
Player of the game honours went to Holland College's Lindsay Shupe and the Mystics's Sara Reid.
The Hurricanes were playing without Megan Spicer, the country's leading scorer, and starter Molly Gallant. They were both out with concussions. Katelyn Peters left in the second half with a broken wrist.
