Basketball players, Lexi MacInnis and Travis Adams have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 3.
MacInnis, a second-year guard from Stratford, Prince Edward Island, was named to the first All-Conference team this weekend by the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association.
This season, MacInnis led the Hurricanes offensively, averaging 14 points (third in the ACAA) in 21 games played. She also contributed with 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 2.3 assists per game, while averaging 33.7 minutes on the floor.
The women’s Hurricanes finished in sixth place in the ACAA standings with a 7-14 record.
MacInnis is studying in the Bioscience program at Holland College.
Adams, a fourth-year forward from Halifax, Nova Scotia, helped lead the Hurricanes to their seventh-straight ACAA Championship this weekend.
In Sunday’s conference championship game versus the Mount Allison Mounties, Adams scored 17 points, added 14 rebounds plus three assists and two steals in the victory; he was also named the player of the game.
This was after a strong performance versus the University of New Brunswick-Saint John Seawolves on Saturday in semi-final action, where he scored 14 points, added eight rebounds a steal and an assist.
Adams is studying in the Sport & Leisure Management program.
The Hurricanes will now travel to Langley, British Columbia to attend the 2019 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Championship hosted by the Langara College Falcons.
The Hurricanes will play their opening game of the championship on Thursday, March 14 at 11:30pm (Atlantic time) versus the host, Langara Falcons.
