Island Rock Camps Award for the Advancement of Music

Description: This $1,000 annual award was established by Andrew and Nikki Waite who are both passionate educators. Island Rock Camps are weeklong music camps for students interested in developing music skills through group performance. They are held in the summer months at the School of Performing Arts. The Island Rock Camps Award will be available to Music Performance students who are in their second year of study, who have shown interest in music education and can demonstrate experience in areas such as (but not limited to) music directing, group instruction, volunteer work in the school system or teaching private lessons.

Criteria: Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students in their second year of the Holland College's Music Performance program, and must submit a short essay (approximately 1/2 page) detailing how they participate in the advancement of music education for themselves and/or others. Students must apply for the award. Applications to include a completed Application Form along with a short essay. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee appointed by the College Registrar, with input from an instructor from the College’s Music Performance program.
