Noreen and George Corrigan Scholarship (Learning Disabilities)

Description: Noreen and George Corrigan, both Islanders, for many years owned and operated Corrigan Lodge in Charlottetown. Mr. Corrigan passed away in 2007 and the business continued under Noreen Corrigan's dedicated leadership and a deep personal concern for the residents of Corrigan Lodge. This scholarship fund is created to inspire people with challenging circumstances to pursue their dreams through higher education.

Criteria: The Noreen and George Corrigan Scholarships will be awarded annually to residents of Prince Edward Island who best meet the following criteria: aged 18 to 30; students are a graduate of a PEI high school and/or have a Grade 12 equivalent (GED and /or adult education upgrading) and intend to further their full time studies at an accredited Canadian post secondary institution;students must have a documented learning disability such as Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and or Dysgraphia etc. Conditions including AD/HD, Asperger’s Syndrome and other autism spectrum disorders, Cerebral Palsy, and psychiatric conditions do not alone qualify a student for this scholarship. Applicants with these conditions are welcome to apply but must also provide documentation of a specific learning disability; students must demonstrate financial hardship. This award is a renewable scholarship given to a deserving student with a learning disability who is attending a post-secondary institution. For example, a student in first year chosen to receive this scholarship may receive the award in the fall of his or her second year providing they have documentation from the post-secondary institution confirming successful completion of all course work. They would then usually receive the award in the fall of their third and fourth years providing successful completion of all course work annually; and then another recipient is chosen.
